I got started in pottery, back in 2001, when a friend wanted someone to attend a class with her. Today I have become fully immersed in pottery as a hobby.
During my first 10 years I took classes with Bill van Gilder at the Frederick Pottery School. After the school closed I moved over to the Frederick Clay Studio to take classes with Tim Sherman. I have always found pottery relaxing and meditative – pottery has become an extension of my long-term involvement in the martial arts.
My focus is, primarily, on functional work of various styles, shapes, and sizes – I, primarily, focus on wheel-thrown work but also enjoy altered forms that combine wheel-thrown and hand-building techniques. I enjoy working with various clay bodies and glaze combinations for various affects and colorations. I especially enjoys wood-firing because of the random nature of the results and the more natural look and feel of the pieces.
I joined the Potter’s Guild of Frederick in Mar 2013. I began displaying/selling my work in the Potters' Guild Gallery in May 2013. I have worked as the Guild Membership Chair and served as President of the Guild from 2014 to 2018.
